The challenge
Refugee Biriyani & Bananas (RBB) is a UK charity that provides community-led aid to people who are refugees and asylum-seekers in areas of crisis. As a responsive, high-impact charity, the RBB team is often overwhelmed with work, running mass distributions and supporting emergencies in places like Greece, Gaza and Ukraine. Before we got involved, RBB had been working on a website redesign for almost a year, but internal capacity issues made it hard to progress. Yet with a growing need to raise more funds and to communicate the impressive impact this charity has, a stronger digital presence was long overdue.
The process
With a long portfolio of past and current projects, our first task was to try to bring order to the website. We worked together with RBB to understand what the most important conversions RBB needs from its website users. Driving donations, email sign-ups and raising general awareness were top priority. We developed a site structure that makes it easy to learn about the charity and the contexts in which it works, and take powerful action. We also reviewed the rich library of image and video content that the charity has, selecting the most effective graphics to make the charity stand-out.
The solution
This resulted in a modern, interactive website that provides clear contextual information, rich information on the charity’s current projects, and easy ways to take action by learning more, donating or signing up for updates. We worked with RBB to integrate a new, multi-currency donation processing software – Donorbox – to make it easy to collect donations eligible for Gift Aid or Zakat. The new Refugee Biriyani & Bananas website is now also hosted on our servers, providing green hosting via our brilliant UK-based sustainable hosting provider, Kualo.
